SOUNDS
LIKE FUN.
Nearly thirty children, singing or playing
instruments, join Mitzie Collins on this joyous
recording. The songs, games, and poems, especially chosen
for pre-school and primary school-age children, are
performed on a wide variety of folk instruments as well
as glockenspiels, xylophones, and metallophones. The more
than 30 years that Mitzie Collins has devoted to making
music with and for children is reflected in every note of
Sounds Like Fun. In addition to classroom and assembly
performances in area schools, Mitzie Collins continues to
be in demand as a workshop leader at early childhood
conferences and music teachers' conventions. We are
flattered and a little amazed to learn that this
recording is now being enjoyed by a second generation of
children. The 8 1/2 by 11 inch, 60-page companion book is
designed for parents and teachers. Each tune is presented
in an easily readable format, with chords, complete
texts, instructions for the games, and suggestions for
related reading material and activities. Orff-Schulwerk
arrangements for five songs are included, as well as a
pattern for making your own limberjack. Home-schooling
parents find Sounds Like Fun and Reach to the Sky
invaluable aids in incorporating music into their daily
learning activities. As a result of Mitzie Collins'
extensive experience with special populations, there are
many adaptations and strategies for using the songs and
games with special children, especially the physically
handicapped.
"A wonderful
resource for teachers and parents alike. The
bibliographic information, music transcriptions, and game
instructions in the accompanying booklet are particularly
outstanding." Dr. Ellen Koskoff,
ethnomusicologist, The Eastman School of Music of the
University of Rochester

| REACH TO THE SKY. Outstanding collection
by award-winning singer and songwriter, Sue Ribaudo. Sue
combined her training as an educator (she has a master's
degree in child development from the University of
Rochester) with her many musical talents to create this
recording of the best in contemporary and traditional
children's songs. Reach to the Sky has received
a rousing reception from kids, moms and dads, librarians
and teachers. Sue is a popular performer at schools,
festivals and conferences. She has served as program
director for Pinewoods Campers' Week in Massachusetts;
been on the staff at the Augusta Heritage Vocal Week,
Elkins, West Virginia, and directed the children's
programs at the summer music institute, Common Ground,in
Westminster, Maryland. The 40-page, spiral-bound
companion book features music and words to the songs,
with guitar chords, instruction for the games and
suggestions of ways parents and teachers can involve
children in the music. Five more great songs were added
to the CD, and are also included in the book. CONTENTS

| EASTMAN FOLK SING. "Here are thirty
folk songs we love to sing and play with our students in
the Eastman Community Music School and that we think
children will love to sing with their parents and
teachers. They have easily-remembered tunes and simple
harmonies. Some are well suited for movement games;
others, for playing on violin, piano, guitar, or wind
instruments. Our versions may differ from those you have
heard or sung before. Please don't worry: there is no
right or wrong. There is also no book of music notation
to go along with this CD: these songa are for your ears,
not your eyes. We hope that children, parents, and
teachers will have fun exploring different possibilities
for singing, playing, arranging, transposing, and
improvising with these great songs. All the musicians are
current or former teachers in the Eastman Community Music
School." Lyrics are included in the accompanying CD
booklet. CONTENTS
